The Institutes Trading and Portfolio Management Principles were created by the community for the community...  

i)  WE KNOW THAT IN TRADING, SIZE DOESN'T MATTER

We know that size is irrelevant. Just because a person commits large amounts of capital to a trade doesn't make that trader a good trader. It is the risk we take as traders and the return we get from that risk that is far more important. What is paramount to us is that we take a responsible approach to trading in order to generate long term wealth and success. Only with this principle in place can we hope to maintain longevity in our community.

ii) WE TAKE PRIDE IN OUR PROFESSIONAL APPROACH TO TRADING

Throughout our trading careers, we know that we will encounter individuals that take excessive risks with the intention of making quick, short term gains that are not long term sustainable. We are aware, that much more often than not; individuals that constantly seek excessive risk and return will ultimately fail as traders. We take pride in our professional approach to trading and in seeking long term profitable solutions to our wealth and success.

iii) WE CONSTANTLY STAY IN TUNE WITH NEWS AND EVENTS AFFECTING THE FINANCIAL MARKETS AND SHARE THIS INFORMATION WHENEVER AND WHEREVER WE CAN

We live and breathe the financial markets, working tirelessly to stay on top of global trends and important newsflow. Whenever and wherever possible, we share this information with as many traders in the Institute community as possible. This ensures that our community of traders is a well informed and strong community of traders.

iv) DISCUSSION, TEAMWORK AND COMMUNITY INTELLIGENCE ARE THE MOST VALUABLE COMMODITIES WE HAVE

Institute traders are encouraged to communicate regularly with eachother. This increases discussion, teamwork and community intelligence. These are by far the most valuable commodities we have at the Institute. The community always comes first and no individual trader is bigger than the Institute community.

v) WE REGARD COMMUNITY DIVERSITY AS A SIGNIFICANT ADVANTAGE

Diversity within our community means we have an advantage in trading. This is because we are aware that a disconnect from gender, ethnic and socioeconomic pre-dispositions is essential to long term trading success. An open gender policy with diverse ethnic backgrounds and socioeconomic origins means we ensure a community with an intelligence and experience advantage. There are no boundaries to our talent reach. 

vi) WE ALWAYS STRIVE TO THINK "OUTSIDE THE BOX"

We are aware that the vast majority of market participants are one dimensional in their trading approach and thinking. Wherever possible, we avoid the "obvious" trade and avoid trading on retrospective newsflow and media hype. We aim at thinking outside the box, by connecting the dots to the unobvious trades. We know that in order to generate superior returns for ourselves and the Institute community, this is the only way to proceed. 

vii) INSTITUTE TRADERS LEAD BY EXAMPLE IN THEIR CONDUCT AND INTERPERSONAL PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

We strive to maintain the highest levels of conduct in all our professional relationships when we are communicating with eachother and with persons outside the Institute in the public domain. Only the highest levels of professional conduct are acceptable.

viii) WE RECOGNISE THAT WE OPERATE IN A HIGHLY REGULATED INDUSTRY AND THAT INTEGRITY AND HONESTY IS KEY TO OUR LONG TERM SUCCESS

We never bend the truth and we never compromise on fact. A community with integrity and an honest approach to trading is far more important to us than the size of our community. We know that if we are always honest with eachother and maintain our integrity at all costs, then the size of our community will take care of itself.
